For the Bernhardt family, home means more than four walls and a roof-it’s about roots, legacy, and dreams finally coming true. Their journey with Braustin Homes is a story of excitement, gratitude, and a deep connection to the land that’s been in their family for generations.
“It’s our dream. I’m not going to cry, but I could because I’m just so excited about it,” Lori Bernhardt shares, her voice full of joy. The Bernhardts are now the proud owners of the Meridian TXR Turk, a home that checked every box for them-spacious, beautifully laid out, and perfectly placed on land that’s been in the family since the late 1800s.
Lori’s search for quality led her straight to Braustin’s website. “I was looking for quality homes and it took me to your website. One day, I just felt like driving to the place, and when I walked in-they took care of me right away.” From the very first visit, the Braustin team made the process effortless. Lori met Charlie, their dedicated housing consultant, via big screen TV, and the rest, as she says, is history.
Charlie became more than just a consultant-she was a guide and a friend, always there to soothe nerves and answer questions. “Charlie called me on the phone and said, ‘Hey, what’s the problem?’ I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m just nervous.’” Charlie’s support made all the difference, helping Lori and her husband choose colors, finishes, and layouts-something Lori had never done before. “It was awesome to be able to do that. I really liked the idea of custom building the Turk, and when we were confused, it was easily remedied. Thank you, Charlie.”
The Bernhardts loved the convenience and clarity of the process. “Everything rolled along as quickly as possible, and everybody made things easy for us. I got a timely answer anytime I had a question-somebody got back to me right away.” They appreciated the energy and patience of the Braustin team, especially as “you’re all young and you work with us old people, so you still have energy,” Lori laughs.
But this home is more than just a fresh start-it’s a continuation of a family legacy. James Bernhardt reflects on what the land means to him: “It means everything to me. We ran all over this place, me and my cousins, when we were little, exploring. I’ll have something to pass down to my kids and grandkids when I’m gone, so I’m glad to stay here.” The land, first purchased by James’s great-grandfather in 1899 after immigrating from Germany, has been the backdrop to generations of family memories. Now, the Bernhardts are adding their own chapter.
With all the extra space, Lori now has a dedicated yoga room, and a craft room for her jewelry-making business. “He’s like, ‘Where’s my room?’” she jokes. James, after long 12-hour shifts, finally has a recliner to relax in and dreams of a bigger desk to display treasures that have been boxed up for years. “All the space that we have now, we can display all those wonderful things that have been in boxes. We didn’t have any room in that other place, so this is a big step up for us.”
And the kitchen? “Oh my gosh, it is awesome. It is so big and I can do dishes while he’s cooking, and there’s a lot of shelves for a lot of things. It’s exactly what I wanted.”
For the Bernhardts, moving into their new Braustin home isn’t just a milestone-it’s a celebration of family, history, and the future. “We’re just absolutely thrilled to be finally moved into our new home,” Lori says, beaming.
